Markover Hunting Preserve is a 300 acre private hunting preserve located in the rolling hills of Northeastern Connecticut. Established in 1917, Markover has provided upland bird hunters with the finest hunting experiences available in the New England/New York area. Four generations of experience have taught us there are some important factors in making a successful and enjoyable hunting experience.
One of the main focuses of Markover is our hunting cover. The hunting fields have a variety of cover types including corn, sorghum and milo patches, perennial plains grasses which hold up well in the winter and the low managed brush which is characteristic of upland fields. Low evergreen growth is also managed to create "living brush piles" which serve as good resting cover for the birds.
The lodge is the heart of the hunting experience, this is where you start the day with a cup of coffee around the fireplace, take a break to enjoy lunch and talk of the morning's hunt, and end the day with a rest in a chair with your feet up. The new lodge sleeps 6 in two bedrooms on the main floor and 4 in the loft area, so your hunting group can enjoy an overnight stay in the lodge as part of the experience. Please call for more information on accommodations.
With out a doubt, a good dog is a key part of an enjoyable hunt. There is nothing like hunting with your friends and family over your own dog, and we encourage hunters to bring their dogs. Markover has well trained English Setters and Springer Spaniels available at all times which your guide will be happy to work for you or your group. There is no extra charge for hunting with one of our dogs.
